If you have been following the Frictionless Data Project, and especially, taken note of the release of V1 specifications for Data Packages, then you'll know that the initiative and growing body of work represents a significant 'hook' for CKAN itself. Bridging a gap between the authoritative publishing of datasets, resources and their machine readable endpoints for a multitude of re-use applications. CKAN is known for its extensibility, interoperability and all round suitability for being an open source bridge to many components within the growing open data ecosystem. A solid integration with Data Packages support provides another path for data visualisation, portability and transformation to encourage intelligent data processing and insights. We are very pleased by the early work done on the ckanext-datapackager extension. Yet more work, progress and open source community contributions are needed to raise this Data Package extension up to take full advantage of what the V1 specifications offer. Stephen Gates has posted a very helpful issue to describe an MVP release at the following location: https://github.com/frictionlessdata/ckanext-datapackager/issues/63  If you are interested in helping with this work please leave a comment against the issue and join the effort.

So... TL;DR

Jump in - contribute. There is a great CKAN extension here. We'd love to see it mature into and through the MVP stage. Review issue #63 and get to work.
