Do you want to run your own copy of CKAN, but have servers that run Windows? If so, help is at hand.
Shortly before he left the CKAN team recently for new pastures, David Read succeeded in installing CKAN 1.6 natively on Windows XP. He wrote about it on the CKAN discussion mailing list here.
As David pointed out in his announcement, "This complements the installs we've seen on a wide range of Linux distributions and Mac OSX." The screenshot below shows CKAN invoked from a command prompt and being successfully accessed by a browser:
Previously, CKAN could be run under Windows only inside a virtual machine. Although CKAN is not officially supported on Windows, this native install adds another option for users. Instructions for getting it working are on the CKAN wiki.
