CKAN Monthly Live - a series of monthly events to showcase CKAN to people - it’s #FreeToJoin and #OpenToEveryone. These virtual events are designed for end users, a space for our community to meet, get to know each other, and learn about uses and applications of CKAN. Each event includes multiple sessions and a live Q&A forum. Join our next meetup: it’s an opportunity to connect with the speakers, the other attendees and the whole CKAN community!

This first meetup was about connecting and refreshing the conversations around CKAN! We had a warm welcome from CKAN Project Co-Stewards Rufus Pollock and Steven De Costa. We kicked off the meeting with an introduction to CKAN, we talked about its website redesign, we touched upon what types of organizations use it and expanded on the use of data portals in corporate settings. We also explored the core CKAN feature set and its advantages as an extensible framework.

This month’s CKAN Monthly Live highlighted Joel Natividad - CEO and Co-founder at DatHere speaking about DataTables View: a modern resource view for tabular data.

This month’s CKAN Monthly Live was about harmonising health data around the globe. We had Fjelltopp - a technical consultancy building and maintaining CKAN instances for the United Nations AIDS relief fund (UNAIDS) tak about the AIDS Data Repository project that aims to improve the quality, accessibility and consistency of HIV data and HIV estimates by providing a centralised platform with tools to help countries manage and share their HIV data.

This month’s CKAN Monthly Live highlighted The Pacific Data Hub - a central repository of reliable, current Pacific data. PDH provides authoritative data on a wide range of topics, from education, fisheries, and geoscience to energy, the environment and economic development.

This month’s CKAN Monthly Live highlighted the Hale & Hearty project: Creating a Knowledge Base to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Ireland. Hale & Hearty provide a comprehensive Health & Wellbeing knowledge base, available as Open Data on the National Open Data Portal data.gov.ie.

This month's meetup hightlighted CHISPA.DATA: promoting transparency and accountability in Cali, Colombia. CHISPA.DATA isn’t just a publicly available platform for transparency in the city of Cali, Colombia (2.5 million residents), it is also a movement to communicate complex civic issues to the public in a comprehensive and easy-to-understand manner.

This month’s CKAN Monthly Live highlighted the Hale & Hearty project: Creating a Knowledge Base to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Ireland. Hale & Hearty provide a comprehensive Health & Wellbeing knowledge base, available as Open Data on the National Open Data Portal data.gov.ie.

DigitalFems, a non-profit organisation that promotes the presence of women in open-source communities, is opening a call for female and non-binary gender developers to contribute to CKAN.

Welcome to CKAN Monthly Newsletter #1! It's been a while since we last connected! We're thrilled to bring you the first edition of our monthly newsletter! We believe that this newsletter will become an essential source of information for our community, and it's going to evolve and improve every month.

We're launching a new initiative called "Ask CKAN". Starting this month, we will be running a social media campaign that will ask users to submit their questions to us via Twitter, LinkedIn, or a specially designed form.

The University of Pittsburgh and datHere are collaborating to strengthen the CKAN ecosystem with support from the U.S. National Science Foundation’s POSE program. We are excited to announce that a new CKAN 3.0 taskforce has been formed, with the addition of two team members from Datopian - Dragan and Svetozar. Both Dragan and Svetozar are highly skilled backend/CKAN developers and have joined CKAN Project on a long-term basis. They will work closely with the technical lead, Anuar, and product owner, Alex Gostev, to form the CKAN 3.0 team.
